Headspace Studios creates purpose-built films to be used as stimuli in neuroscience. So far, we have made movies specifically for viewing inside MRI scanners, but our films are also being used with other modalities such as EEG and eye-tracking. We prioritize a long and involved preproduction process to allow expertise from multiple disciplines—including neuroscience, filmmaking, musical composition, psychiatry, child development and the visual arts—to inform each decision in the project. Each film becomes both a scientific and artistic experiment to see if we can evoke (or avoid evoking) the targeted neural processes.
