We use movies to study the brain while it is working.

The lab has three main areas of research:

METHODS: How can we increase experimental control without violating the naturalistic dynamics of stimuli? How can we best use movies to increase signal and decrease noise in fMRI studies?

CHILD PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS: Can eye-tracking and/or functional connectivity during movie watching increase our understanding of brain function in child psychiatric disorders? We focus mainly on adolescent depression, but have projects in OCD, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and more…

CREATING, TESTING AND SHARING NOVEL MOVIES:

  • alternative to task-free rest (Inscapes)

  • standardized, shared “kitchen sink” movies used to assay whole-brain connectivity

  • purpose-built symptom provocation paradigms
